Exploring Cities | Things to do Around the World this Weekend
Amsterdam
BEER FESTIVAL IN NIEUW-WEST - BUURTWERKPLAATS (3/14): Taste local beers and other delicacies, and learn about craft brewing techniques and how to bake bread while listening to live bands.
Madrid
Mathias Goeritz and Intervention in Emotional Architecture (3/13-4/13): A selection of over two hundred works including drawings, sketches, models, sculptures, photographs and pictures on board that show us the experimental, analytical, and fun side of the work of Mathias Goeritz (Danzig, 1915 – Mexico City, 1990) are up for display in the Spanish Contemporary art museum, La Reina Sofia.
Once you're done checking out the work, stop by the museum's library to catch a glimpse of its hip and modern study space.
Los Angeles
Disco Dining Club (3/13): For its second installment of revelry and consumption, the series is bringing in James Beard-nominated chef Bernhard Mairinger of BierBeisl, who will make food that pairs with the event's unlimited cocktail and beer bar. All-you-can-eat oysters and an all-vinyl, all-disco DJ set round off the evening. And if that wasn't enough, a live brass section and a burlesque performance by Dolly Dagger set this dinner over the top. The goal? Give Angelenos a night of ostentatious, gregarious, disco-drenched decadence.
New York
Brooklyn St. Patrick's Day Parade (3/15): The British first conquered New York City right in Brooklyn Heights, and the Irish American Parade Committee is commemorating its 40th year by of the Battle of Brooklyn (as many of the committee members’ forefathers were involved in that war.) At 12:45pm, the procession also honors the heroes and victims of 9/11.
Istanbul
The Good Cause: Architecture of Peace and Vocabulary of Hospitality (3/16): An exhibition centering around the long aftermath of war and conflict - what happens once the media's cameras have withdrawn and the tough battle to rebuild physical and emotional bonds has begun.
London
Convergence | Music + Art + Technology (3/13 - 3/21): Convergence 2015 brings together media, promoters and technologists including Guardian Live, NTS, Noise of Art and Last.fm. This year Convergence is proud to programme at FutureFest.
